SHIMA'S BEFORE & AFTER!

Shima's Natural Hair

Okay, now even though I'm a little young here (6 years old) it is IMPERATIVE that I post a pic that showcases my NATURAL hair. Which means that this is my REAL HAIR as God gave it to me...no relaxers, no hair dyes, no hot combs, no blow dryers, no hair gel, no greases, no hair oils. Nothing remotely man made has yet to touch a single hair strand on my 6 year old head. So as you can see I DO NOT have what the average uneducated person refers to as one of the girls with the "Good Hair."

My NATURAL hair is just as painful to comb and style as the next Natural haired girl. Yet this is the same type of hair that is now grown down my waist...with the help of my Shima Hair Growth System. Protective Styling is sooooo underrated it's not even funny. Just look at what it can do for a black little girl like I once was with the so-called "Bad Hair." Seeing is believing indeed:)

Shima.2.jpg

From very short...

My hair will not grow much longer than this due to excessive dryness and breakage. My Shima Hair Growth System changed all of that.

Shima.jpg

To long and lovely...

My Shima Hair Growth System taught me how to completely banish hair dryness from my life. My hair did not grow faster. My Shima Hair Growth System simply helped me to see the growth that was already occuring.

Shima.jpeg

To Unbelievable!!!

Today people ask me all the time "Is that your real hair?" And all the time I reply with the same Proud, Confident answer, "Yes. It is my real hair." My simple to follow Shima Hair Growth System helped me to successfully shatter all of the negative myths surrounding black hair.

To...Okay, This Girl Don't Play!!
Surprised

Shimascurrenthai.jpg

Once upon a time I never dreamed that what you're seeing before your eyes was possible either. I also bought into the myth that hair this breathtakingly long was only for the white girls, the Indian girls, the mixed girls, the asian girls, the any type of girls except for the black girls with afro-textured hair. Notice that I emphasized afro-textured hair, because there are some black girls that have what some people perceive as the girls with the "good hair" which is hair that most resembles that of the white girls. No, I am talking about the type of hair that you can't even run a comb through without crying out in pain. The crinkly, super dry kind. The so called "Nappy" kind. That's the type of hair that I'm talking about and the kind that the average person believes cannot grow past a certain length.

But today I have proven ALL of the naysayers....WRONG:) With the right amount of determination, patience and a goal today I, too am able to flaunt gorgeous, waist-length hair and be proud to say that it is ALL MINE. No weave, no extensions no B.S.

Protective Styling is a dream come true for me. Without it I never would have accomplished my goal, my dream actually because since I was a little girl (as most little black girls) I always dreamed of having long, long hair that I can sway from side to side. Even though waist-length hair may not be the ultimate goal for every woman of color, super healthy hair is and Protective Styling has given me that, too. There is not one split end, one broken hair strand, one frizzy hair that can be seen under the most sophisticated microscope.

I plan to grow my hair even longer than what you see in my most current picture. I promised myself that I will not stop until I have reached Fairytale proportions.

 It's A New Day!

Ain't no mountain high enough! Nothing can keep me, keep me from yoooouu! (Giggle) So what is everybody's plans for this weekend? Anybody going dancing? I know alot of ladies just have to have their hair down when they're going dancing and I feel ya:)
Heck, I love my hair down, too when I'm at a party and I know everybody's checking me out. So I forgive you if you undid your hair from your Protective Styles to party...but I hope that after your girl's night out comes to a close you're protecting your hair again. Look at it this way ladies. When you go out on the weekends and you wear your hair down it's because you EARNED the right to wear your hair down after keeping it tucked in all week.

It's kind of like a diet in a way. You allow yourself a few oreo cookies, a slice of pizza or some ice cream atleast once a week as a Reward to yourself for being so good all week. And that makes you feel good and inspires you to continue on with your goal.
What I like to do to keep myself inspired to is look at pics of women of color with long gorgeous hair. I know that my hair now surpasses in length almost every model's hair (black or white) in the hair and beauty magazines but I still find myself gazing at really long, bouncy, healthy looking hair nonetheless. I'm just a long hair lover I guess:)

So what I'm basically trying to tell you is to Stay Inspired! I don't care what it takes don't let negative influences detour you from growing your hair. Because I know that's what some (if not most) of you are probably going through right now on your journey to longer hair. Negative-minded people will have you believe that you can't do it. And even though they may not tell you to your face "Oh, you'll never have long hair" they'll let
you know in other subtle ways. Like a simple shake of the head, or someone sucking their teeth or even a frown is enough to detour you off course if you're not mentally strong enough. This has happened to me and that's why I'm telling you this...Every time you're trying to achieve a so-called impossible dream negative-minded people will try to stop you!

But they couldn't stop Shima and hopefully with enough positive thinking, hard work and faith they won't stop you either.

Now...LET'S GET BEAUTIFUL*
 How It All Began
This is what my REAL hair looks like without perms, hot irons, greases, hair oils, pressing, etc. And you will be amazed at how many people find it unbelievable that there is afro-textured hair underneath that shiny, smooth, 27 inches of gorgeous waist-length hair I sport today. Why? Very simple (and I learned this from experience) People, be it black, white, chinese, or whatever don't expect black women with dry, afro-textured hair like that little girl you see on the pic to your left to grow her hair that long without being mixed or a hair weave being attached.

I still remember those dreaded combing hair rituals with my mom to get my hair ready for school or some other outing. It not only hurt to comb my hair but after it was combed my scalp felt like a forest fire was just extinguished! Needless to say,  I was soooo happy when I finally became old enough to do my own hair. Which didn't make it any better mind you, because it was still painful to run that hair comb through those tightly curled strands, but, because I had control now it wasn't as bad.

This TRUE story can be told by thousands of black little girls across the country and with far worse horror stories than mine. The dreaded hair comb pulling on our tender scalps, that scorching hot comb a/k/a pressing, the tension on our head as our hair is getting braided into TOO TIGHT plaits and on and on and on. Yes, I've been there, too and it ain't been pretty.
And so to bring an end to this misery below I have listed 4 simple to follow steps for all the mothers (or anyone else in charge of doing little girls hair)

1. First and FOREMOST if your little girl's hair is damaged utilize GENTLE HANDLING!! This means NOT raking hair combs and brushes through her hair. Mothers, you're not accomplishing ANYTHING by doing this...only making matters worse. Remember, black hair is fragile hair, easily broken to begin with so imagine if you're hacking away at it like you're chopping wood. Besides, your daughter will THANK YOU for that extra dose of TLC as well as save her tresses from further damage.

2. Okay, it's Hair Wash Day. Your little girl will NOT have to fear this day eitherbut only IF you follow my advice. Shampoo and condition her hair just as you do yours. A good shampoo and conditioner to use is the Kids Suave products as these will NOT sting your kid's eyes and as a special bonus they smell like candy, too. And you know how much kids love candy:) Avoid combing until after you're done and when you do comb her hair use the wide tooth combs and GENTLY comb from the ends up.

3. Now you're going to use a technique known as BRAID OUT or the TWIST OUT. They are exactly what they say. The BRAID OUT simply means that you are going to BRAID your daughter's hair. I recommend using the single "individual" braids. These are way LESS PAINFUL than the cornrows, and yes, once again your daughter will THANK YOU for doing this, too.

4. If you opt for the TWIST OUT this simply means "twisting" your daughter's hair. It's simple, all you do is take two separate sections of hair and "twist them" together. Perform the BRAID OUT or the TWIST OUT throughout her hair and when you're done let it AIR DRY for a couple of hours.

What you just did will bring ease and manageability to styling your daughter's hair. You may even choose to leave the braids or twists in her hair because they look so good after they're done drying. Please use leave-in conditioner after the wash out for even more bounce. Wrap a silky scarf around your little girl's head at night to keep her hair in place, lock in moisture and help it grow back (or help it keep growing if it is already long).

 Shoulder Length Phase
This is basically how long the average uneducated person expects a black woman's hair to grow. Anything slightly longer than shoulder-length will conjure up images of tracks, extensions or wigs. And I can attest to this fact on a personal level because when my hair was just above mid-back length people will ask me (with this "Yeah right" look upon their faces) "Shima, that's your real hair?" And even when I replied yes you can tell that they still didn't believe you. Imagine what they'll say now that it's down my waist?! "Oooh, you sure that ain't a weave? You sure that ain't tracks? You sure you ain't white?"

LOL!! I have to laugh about it now because it is just so sad how society has conditioned themselves to believe that certain things are just not possible either because it goes against the norm or you have to have a helping hand along the way. And even though that may be true for some people it ain't true for everybody and I ain't no special exception. What paved the way for me to grow my hair really long was when I discovered Protective Styling. And through years and years of trial and error I might add.

This is how it started: One day I pulled my hair back into a simple pony tail and rolled it up into a bun and left it that way for a little over a week. When I noticed how much smoother and healthier the ends of my hair appeared I continued to hide my ends in hair buns, french twists and other creative hairstyles until finally I realized that as long as the ends of my hair remained healthy it will grow longer. So this is why I can't stress it enough...

*Protective Styling equals Longer Hair!*

Conditioning our hair is also essential for ultimate hair growth so below I have compiled a list of the top 5 conditioners the average woman uses and how they can help us.

Okay, depending on the type of conditioner you use they can strengthen strands making them more pliable so that you can comb through tangles with better ease or they can give you bounce or bring back the "Spice" to your color-treated hair.

1. Deep Conditioners: Deep conditioners are penetrating treatments that are excellent to help strengthen the hair. Other benefits include; Replacing lost moisture and oils and reversing any damage done to strands. For them to work to their fullest potential, however you must leave them in longer than you leave in your shampoo. Twenty minutes to a full hour if you really need MAJOR repair should do it.

2. After-Shampoo Conditioners:
These conditioners can be left in our hair anywhere between 5 to 15 minutes before rinsing out. Always read the instructions on your bottle for the appropriate recommended time.

3. Leave-in Conditioners:
These mean exactly what they say...You LEAVE THEM IN!! They are applied after your shampoo and conditioner treatments and NOT rinsed out. They are generally used as a thermal protectant to prep the hair for heat styling. But if you're using a roller set you'll see how much healthier- looking and bouncier your curls come out after removing them.

4. Color-treated Conditioners:
These conditioning treatments are specially formulated for color-treated hair. Their purpose is to help PRESERVE the original intensity of your haircolor. And some are formulated to help replace lost color.

5. Salon treatments:
These conditioning treatments are performed by your stylist. Your stylist can formulate the regimen and treatment best for your specific hair needs based on chemical processing, damage, breakage, etc.

 Relaxed...Growing...Beautiful
You know, it's wonderful to achieve your dreams and it's wonderful to influence others with your accomplishments and I pray every day to God to continue to give me the strength to continue to do just that...influence others with my accomplishments. I have shared with you just how it was for me from the very beginning to how it is for me now to the very present. As I hope you can see I was NOT born with smooth, super long, manageable hair cascading down my back. But in real life, people who don't know me, this is what they erroneously assume. "There goes a black girl with good hair; There goes another black girl with some fake hair"  Etc, etc, etc.

And you know, even though I can't control what people think or how they think and even why they think that way atleast I can control how I, Shima Kindelan thinks. And it is through my positive way of thinking and blocking out all negative energy and words from my mind that I was able to press forward and achieve my waist-length hair goals. So ladies, please stay INSPIRED and rest assured that your hair will definitely respond to consistent care*
